The wife and I have been thinking about a family motorhome trip (along with our 4 and 1 year old) for a while. A weekend rental seemed like the best way to dip our feet in the water. We booked last minute but a couple of quick emails and everything was sorted. Sam replied almost instantly to all questions and due to the preceding booking returning early she offered us an early pick up. I drove up on my own to collect the motorhome and after a good briefing from Sam I headed back to collect the family. My four year old was over the moon to be collected from school in it. After throwing in everything we thought we might need we headed up to Arnside for a chippy tea over looking the sea. The locals all watched my parallel parking with the less than useful help from my wife. However I managed to pull it off on the first attempt! With full bellies we headed up to Ullswater to find a spot for some rough motor-homing. It's a very big vehicle but you soon get used to it. We found a spot north of Glenridding with views across the lake. We weren't sure about the rules about parking up for the night (heard a few rumours about wardens) but as there were a couple of other motorhomes in the car park we risked it. There were several other spots along the A592 big enough to pull up in. Everyone turned in for the night. I'm 6'3" and comfortably fitted in the bed and despite the October weather we were warm all night. Woke up (by two excited kids) to great views across the lake. A bit of paddle and a quick shower. Again despite my height I managed to get a good hose down. Then some breakfast, the hobs and grill worked well and the fridge had kept things cold. We then headed up to Scotland. We stopped at a small village South West of Dumfries for lunch before heading up to Galloway Forest. We parked up near the dear park and spent a couple of hours hiking and then trying to spot a deer. We then headed back to Clatteringshaws Loch. There are plenty of spots to park up for the night. We found one right by the lake. The roads up here were much quieter than the Lake District making it a much more relaxing drive. Breakfast looking out at the Loch and then on to Dumfries (parking at the coach park just outside of the town centre). A walk through the town and then along the river. The Pancake Place is well worth a visit both for breakfast and for the amazing pancakes. Getting to the end of our trip we headed home via Gretna for a quick look at the retail park. The North carpark (just outside of the shopping centre seems to be the place for parking bigger vehicles). A great weekend. The motorhome was brilliant and we found beautiful places to stop overnight. Returned the motorhome the next morning, brilliant service from Sam and Adam. We'll be booking with them again in the future!! A huge thankyou to the magurie family for taking the time to write us a guest blog entry.
